KNIGHTS PLAYER CHRIS ROMEO OFF TO ENGLAND & SPAIN 25th January 2010
The following article is part of an article published in the Sunraysia Daily on Saturday 23rd January 2010
Until recently, Mildura soccer star Chris Romeo had never flown in a plane.
Now the 19-year-old is off to see the world after being selected in the Australian Football Skool’s under 19 squad to tour Europe in March.
Romeo will travel to London to train with English Premier League clubs Fulham and Arsenal before heading to Spain to play in an international youth tournament.
“I can’t even picture it, I just don’t know what I’m expecting. It’s pretty exciting,” Romeo said.
“I’ve never been overseas before, this is the first time so it will be a real eye-opener. It’s like a dream really.
“I’ve been playing for about five years and I think I’ve improved every year so to get this far is good.”
Romeo was a late starter to soccer having played Australian Rules football and tennis when he was younger.
But once he turned his attention to soccer he immediately took to it and hasn’t looked back.
Chris has also been nominated for the Mallee Sports Assembly Sports Star of the Year. The winner will be announced at a gala evening at the Club da Vinci on Friday 4th February 2010. Guest speaker for the night will be Nicole Livingstone the former Australian Olympic swimmer. Tickets for the night can be purchased from the Mallee Sports Assembly. Adults $35.00 and Children Under 10 $15.00.
A two course meal is included and drinks can be purchased from the bar.
The Irymple Knights wish Chris every success for his upcoming trip overseas.
